Howdy Russ,
I just wanted to give you a little note on reviews. Here are
a few ground rules I will lay down about how I will approach them. Also, when I
refer to films in this note, please assume that the same statements apply to
other works I review as well.
First, I will reveal
spoilers. I know that’s not nice for those who want to get an idea about a game
or film before taking one in, but a review is a re-view: it’s a look back at
something already witnessed. As a reviewer, I need to have already seen the
film to develop thoughts about it. By reading my review, I’m going to assume
that you have already experienced what I’m talking about. But because I
acknowledge and greatly respect the sanctity of spoiler discretion, I will
apply a spoiler tag to each of my reviews.
Second, my reviews will most likely be in depth and,
therefore, longer. While many reviews from other sources are short and sweet, I
like to go into depth. The wonderful thing about movies and video games is
their complexity. There are many things that have to work together to make a
great piece come alive. Most likely I won’t be able to cover all these elements
in just a couple paragraphs.
Finally, I am not an expert on film or any other art form I
review. While I believe I can keep up with friends of mine who have truly
studied the intricacies and art of film, I cannot commentate with the authority
of someone who has spent their life studying and contributing to the
entertainment industry. My reviews are opinionated and blunt. However, I will
do my very best to be factually accurate and give credit where its due.
Ultimately, I hope to create compelling reading material for movie and game
buffs whether or not they know anything about their respective industries and their
intricacies.
Look out for my first review in the next couple days!
Thanks for listening Russ,
DCon
